What is a common sense approach for a Manager who wants to be successful in her/his role?My clients, prior to our engagement, have tried some or all of the following:o Relying solely on their natural leadership ability to lead their team.o Getting advice from credible websites through paid subscriptions. o Attending trainings for new or established managers.o Securing a mentor at work (if supported by the company culture).o Getting a trusted advisor outside work (a former colleague, a former boss, or a friend with experience in people management). That’s all well and good. Sooner or later, you will have identified certain best practices that every manager, at every level, uses. So, you trust that once you apply them you will notice a change of scenery. Or not necessarily?Best practices provide direction, yet they require certain skills and behaviors from the person who needs to apply them. As human beings, we all have unique personalities with different strengths, weaknesses, ambitions, fears and so on. Hence, the ‘common sense’ approach of applying best practices turns out to be not so common after all.If you feel that you lack certain skills and behaviours to apply the best practices, what stops you from developing them? What are the barriers that hold you back? I will support you to find the answers to the above questions and put into practice the new behaviors required to become a confident leader.
