A 3-month intensive course in full stack development. With a focus on JavaScript, ReactJS, Python, NodeJS, SQL & NoSQL databases and more. Through a combination of lectures, labs and projects I learnt how to build and deploy full stack applications using a multitude of technologies. Fractal Logistics was originally my client and after introducing them to a programme I had built as a broker, they asked me if I would like to interview for a role with them as a junior trader. As a tech company, they valued my previous work and wanted to grant me exposure to their existing products with a view to further developing them from a broker’s perspective whilst being trained as a trader. My responsibilities included:- Seeking out and developing new business opportunities- Collating information and running the numbers for said opportunities- Fostering existing relationships with clients and further developing existing business- Negotiating and re-negotiating both existing and new freight contract- Gathering market information for both internal and external use and making calls on said information- Working with the data science team in order to get the most out of this information- Working with the development team to discuss possible future projects for both internal and external use

I was brought on as part of a team to build a grain desk across London, Geneva and Genoa with a focus on developing and implementing a cross network calculation and organisation system. This is an excel-based calculation system I had developed to improve productivity internally. My other duties were to maintain relationships I had made as a broker and develop new business to bring into the company.

Whilst in London, I was tasked with implementing similar tools I had built for the grain desks but this time with a focus on minerals.

My responsibilities included seeking new business opportunities in the East and continuing to maintain the relationships between Singapore, Geneva and New York, which I had fostered whilst in Switzerland.

I was asked to move to Geneva in order to help set up an interlink desk between Singapore and New York. This experience taught me that a lot of the internal tools were hugely inefficient which incentivised me to start developing my own which sought to increase productivity.Whilst there I moved from a Junior role to a more senior one, which required me to seek out and develop buisiness opportunities with a focus on the Grain Majors located in Geneva.

After a week’s work experience on the desk, I was hired as a trainee broker. The duties included updating the communal systems from both internal and external sources and talking to some minor clients.
