About Theo S.

Engineering- The art of applied creativity. Hello, I’m Theo.I have worked a wide range of domains, ranging from embedded controls to LabVIEW FPGA. I am passionate about LabVIEW and all technologies. I have my own NI RIO and NI I/O DAQ for home and hobby project use.I have created advanced simulations for several FAA certifications efforts, including a TCAS sim that simulated over 200 aircraft ADS-B transponders simultaneously with real time telemetry updates. The real time data monitoring discovered multiple issues earlier in the development phase, saving significant cost and reducing the certification schedule. Architected and developed an advanced analog video generator for the testing and verification of aircraft head down displays that required both raster and stroke video, covering multiple proprietary video formats. Competing COTS systems at that time would have required a three week down time for each specification change and hardware cost nearly three times my design solution. The system was based on LabVIEW FPGA Flex I/O with customized socketed CLIPs (Component-Level IP) and custom designed digital-to-analog hardware using 120Mhz DDR bus. Created VHDL test bench with ModelSim, that significantly shortened validation and hardware integration phases. This design is now used on multiple military product lines with cost savings in the millions of dollars.During this effort I worked side by side with the 2011 NI FPGA development team that streamlined future versions of LabVIEW FPGA clock level test benching. I was given the honor to create a Keynote presentation for the 2012 NI Week, but due to the military nature of the project I was forced to decline the offer. Created Underwriter Laboratory (UL) test systems used to validate intelligent life-saving arc-fault circuit breakers that are used in homes and industries across the world. Lead engineer for the hardware design and test systems that introduced extremely high voltages for arc fault testing. I was an undergraduate research assistant handpicked by the Director of Engineering. Performed research and development work on transient noise on AC lines generated by universal AC motors. Developed an embedded algorithm on a low end Pic microcontroller that that could detect and control the speed of a motor without any external RPM sensor. The patent was sold to major tool manufacturer for intelligent hand held power tools. Specialties: data management, relational databases, project collaboration, Test Engineering, Agile, LabVIEW, LabVIEW Real Time (RT), LabVIEW FPGA, distributed I/O.
