About Quan Vu

How did I get promoted for 4 straight years and climb my way to the top of IT Management for the largest dental company in the world? I'm passionate about creating teams and helping them grow. Here's my story: I was hired by the CTO to start a Tech Support team because I was technical with a personality. Things started a little slow but once our new flagship product caught fire in the market, I got promoted to Supervisor and hired, trained, and grew the team. On a separate venture, the CTO wanted to start an all-digital dental team and I was given the opportunity to do it – and well – I did it. I built a team and automated the order entry of thousands of digital cases per month. With the success, I was promoted the following year to Manager where I would begin my journey to build an expansive IT Operations team starting with the Helpdesk. I was given ownership of the Helpdesk team which I then reorganized into separate Service Desk and Desktop Support teams and implemented ITIL, while eliminating old school disk imaging in favor of SCCM automation. This allowed us to scale effectively with the business. As the teams excelled and grew, I landed a Sr. Manager role and this time the stakes and goals were much bigger as I inherited Software QA, ERP, and Business Analysts from the VP to allow her to focus on strategic planning. The larger stakes led to bigger wins for the teams as we implemented Selenium automation testing while the BAs were realigned to support "two pizza" software development teams. We're currently in the midst of implementing Dynamics 365 and Workday. Somewhere in between I started a Professional Services team from scratch and helped turned it into a multimillion dollar business. Today as the Director of IT Operations, I'm responsible for the biggest team within IT with direct ownership in Software QA, SRE, AWS/Azure cloud operations, ERP, AD/AAD/SCCM infrastructure, Service Desk, Apps, Desktop, Audio/Visual, Tech Support, and 24/7 operations. I’m also part of the Senior IT Management team overseeing the best dental technology company on the planet. What I'm most proud of is helping teams and individuals achieve their career goals. I'm personally inspired by Jim Collin's book, Good to Great, and my energy goes into being a Level 5 leader to transform a good team or organization to a great one. When I'm not wearing a white shirt and tie (yeah I know), I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids, cooking a good meal, and enjoying it with a Costco cab.
