Raj Dhillon has nearly a decade of experience in the political arena, government relations, and legislative analysis and advocacy. He currently serves as a Sustainability Policy Advisor in Los Angeles County’s Chief Sustainability Office, which aims to implement policies to address the pressing environmental, economic, and social challenges we face. Formerly, Raj served as the Senior Manager of Advocacy & Public Policy for Breathe Southern California and fulfilled various roles for Senate Majority Leader Robert M. Hertzberg dating back to Senator Hertzberg's initial campaign for State Senate.In his current position as Sustainability Policy Advisor, Raj helps to provide comprehensive and coordinated policy guidance for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, county departments and agencies, and the entire region to make communities healthier, more livable, economically stronger, more equitable, and more resilient. He serves as the liaison between the Chief Sustainability Office and the 88 cities throughout Los Angeles County and leads the office's response on federal and state legislative matters.Previously, having arrived at Breathe Southern California, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to revitalize the Advocacy & Public Policy department, Raj pursued legislation and policies aimed to better lung health, and he sought to develop strategies to improve air quality, including increasing the number of clean medium- and heavy-duty trucks. Prior to joining Breathe Southern California, his time in Senator Hertzberg's operation is where Raj developed the largest and most comprehensive internship program in the legislature while having spearheaded research on several topics that included government efficiency, tax reform, and housing/homelessness.Raj earned his B.A. in Political Science & Government and his Master of Public Administration (MPA) from California State University, Northridge (CSUN). He proudly serves on multiple boards, including the Advisory Board of CSUN's MPA Program; the Board of Directors of New Directions for Youth, Inc., a comprehensive youth development organization; and on the Advisory Committee of the National Stewardship Action Council, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit focused on establishing a circular economy. Furthermore, Raj is involved in multiple startup ventures, maintains an active network among various political clubs, and is passionate about the role government and technology can play to address everyday and long-term challenges.
