As a Software and System Design and Strategy Architect for z/OS computer networking technologies, I develop designs and architecture for next generation z/OS networking technologies and help z/OS customers get the most out of available networking technologies on z/OS and help them interoperate with various network fabrics used in data centers. I have broad knowledge of the z/OS TCP/IP stack, with specialty in network routing and connectivity and surrounding technologies and issues. I am also the product owner (architecture lead) for the IBM Configuration Assistant for z/OS Communications Server, which is a z/OSMF plug-in for generating configuration files for z/OS Communications Server.Past responsibilities in this role have included:Architecture lead for conversion of the z/OS TCP/IP stack and device drivers to 64-bit addressing mode. Designed the network line flow protocols for the Shared Memory Communications over RDMA technology, an application transparent RDMA over RoCE networking protocol that delivers high throughput, low latency and significant CPU efficiency with resilience for multi-tiered enterprise workloads. Served as Chief Architect for z/OS Communications Server V1R13, responsible for: determining release content and overseeing design and direction of line items taking into account multiple internal and external requirements and stakeholders plus budget realities, creating and reviewing announcement and marketing materials, working with other groups to resolve dependencies and requirements.

Agile Tools Strategy focal point for z/OS Communications Server, responsible for researching and prototyping tools required to transform a waterfall development organization into one that uses the Agile/Scrum method. Chief programmer for z/OS Communications Server V1R8 and V1R10. Was responsible for all technical aspects of these releases from initial content selection to scheduling, resource balancing, development, test, and customer implementation education, from initial conception through delivery to customers on a 2 year development cycle.

Developed and tested enhancements and porting of the following TCP/IP applications and protocols: IPv6, OSPF, RIP, DHCP, FTP (client and server), all developed in POSIX compliant C in the z/OS Unix environment. Led a development team delivering over 6500 lines of C code on a one-year cycle from design through system test. Led a test team validating over 14,000 lines of IPv6 stack code. Aided service team in dealing with customer problems and situations, including troubleshooting on the customers’ premises and remotely from RTP. Provided revenue-generating network design consulting to enterprise customers. Developed and presented detailed technical presentations on networking topics at numerous technical conferences.

Prepared patent applications under supervision of attorneys, searched prior art and provided attorneys with opinions and advice on the patentability of inventions. Worked with inventors to prepare patent applications, assisted attorneys in responding to USPTO office actions.

Portable Networking systems: Developed code in C for a portable SNA stack used by several IBM products and Cisco. Led a release team through development of portable SNA code through an eight-month cycle, led a release team working with multiple sites to develop portable TCP/IP server code for thin clients. Previous to this position: was a key developer of VTAM/APPN code from design to the field, with responsibilities including: high and low-level design, coding, team leadership, test support and automation, customer and service skills transfer education. After release, worked with customers to debug and develop code fixes for software defects. Represented APPN/VTAM technology at trade shows, worked with the APPN Implementers' Workshop industry consortium to develop SNA networking architecture.
