I was employed as a media analyst with Monitoring Perth Media from 1992, until it was later taken over by Media Monitors, and susequently changed its name.My responsibilities with Media Monitors included:* Fast and accurate search and analysis of national and local newspapers, magazines and other publications of interest to clients, meeting regular deadlines, under pressure and without supervision.* Scanning electronic media for material of interest to clients. This included talk back radio, news and current affairs.I had direct contact with current clients and continued to seek and obtain new ones.

I was employed by Ray Bird and Associates from 1990 to 1992. Ray had headed the marketing section of the West Australian Tourism Commission, but created his own marketing business, under the umbrella of RASAM Nominees, which included the media monitoring company, News Research.I had been working for New Research, at the time of the takeover. After noticing my dealings with clients and creative written material, Ray offered to train me in the position of a promotions consultant for his expanding marketing side of the company.Our clients were mostly West Australian tourism based companies and regions.My responsibilities included the research, design and production of the following brochures- Route 94- Midlands Self Drive Tour Planner- Albert Facey Homestead- Central South Drive Tour Planner- Mandurah - The Year Round Holiday ResortI was involved in the preparation of submission documents for The Sir David Brand Awards, in a year that was most successful for The Albert Facey Homestead.My role also included the preparation and dissemination of media releases. I organised and escorted representatives, from various publications, on visits to regional areas of Western Australia.I participated in exhibitions that included The Perth Holiday and Travel Show, where I planned, organised and coordinated displays for the Midlands Regional Travel Association and The Mandurah Tourist Bureau.Other duties included attending regional travel meetings, preparation of media kits and the distribution of brochures.Ray Bird and Associates also represented several industry publications, in advertising. I handled cold canvassing and the placement of advertisements in the following publications:* Travel West* Inside Tourism* Meetlink* Australia Today* Discover Australia* Singapore Straits Times
