DCED contracts opened a new market for SCA—corporations interested in tax credit leveraged giving. In 2005, one successful private foundation application created the SCA West Virginia Sustainable Communities Project, with an initial award for $125,000. My 2007 proposal to another private foundation launched the SCA Green Cities Initiative with a $300,000 initial award and renewed support each year.
