About Ross Taylor
I'm an associate professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, and a documentary filmmaker and photographer. Previous to this, I was a photojournalist for more than 20 years. I've worked in multiple countries and conflict zones and have been awarded with numerous "Photographer of the Year" awards. They include National Press Photographers Association Photographer of the Year, New England Photographer of the Year, Northern Photographer of the Year, Virginia Photographer of the Year and North Carolina Photographer of the Year (twice). My work in an Afghanistan trauma hospital was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. My two documentary feature films have been recognized by over 40 film festivals and have been distributed by PBS. I teach a range of courses including journalism's role in a democracy, photojournalism, video journalism, motion graphics (After Effects), basic HTML and CSS and online learning courses as well. As part of my creative path for tenure, I've completed two feature-length documentary films that have been accepted/recognized by over 30 film festivals, produced photo series that have been seen world-wide, gave a TEDx talk on my work, held a solo exhibit at the Museum of Boulder and was part of a $160,000 grant around the work completed for the exhibit and have won numerous national and international awards for my creative work.
