Fieldwork was done numerous times to… Show more In the Toxicology Centre, under the supervision of Dr. Markus Brinkmann, PhD, Mr. Phillip Ankley, MSc, Ms. Milena Esser-Doreen, MSc, and Ms. Hannah Mahoney, MSc, for the Saskatoon Regional Science Fair, I employed numerous scientific methodologies using state-of-the-art technology at the University of Saskatchewan's Toxicology Centre to determine the sources of plastic pollution in an urban river ecosystem using the quantification of microbial biofilm. Fieldwork was done numerous times to collect environmental samples for DNA extraction using spin column-based nucleic acid purification methods and DNA quantification using fluorometric analysis.
