I specialize in doing the types of mortgages you can't get from a bank. This includes hard money and other types of alternative financing that is geared toward solving the problem instead of trying to fit everyone into a tiny little box created by an underwriter.In February 2001, I got a job working for a mortgage broker. At the time, I had bad credit and knew nothing about the mortgage industry or credit. All I knew was that I was in a bad position and didn't know how to get out of it.Through lots of hard work and study, I learned about both and became a top producing loan officer. But I wasn't as smart as I thought I was. Even though I had learned about credit and mortgages, I was not an expert, in spite of being a top producer.When the market crashed, I was hit as hard as anyone I knew. My income dropped 80% from the previous year and I was starting a new mortgage company that specialized in hard money loans. I lost my house in foreclosure and filed for bankruptcy. I was at rock bottom.I knew I had to do something different so I worked long hours to get our mortgage company off the ground, figuring out through trial and error what worked and what didn't. We built up to become one of the leading hard money lenders in our area.But there was still the issue of my credit. I had none as a result of my past troubles along with my decision to pay cash for everything. Finally, I realized that I had to get back into the credit game if I was wanted to do what I wanted, including buying a home, buying a car or even renting a car.There was little information available for someone in my position so I did lots of research to figure out how to rebuild my credit. Once I started, it only took a few months to get my score over 700. But I didn't stop there.I made it my mission to learn all I could about credit so that I could not only help myself but also to help my clients.
