Making high-quality technical training widely available to Technical Nubankers

I joined Manara as a part-time Technical Leader to create a management system to streamline interactions in a 3-sided marketplace (students, mentors, companies). We built a low code solution (Airtable + Next.js) that allowed us to increase the number of students in each cohort while retaining operational flexibility.My first contact with Manara was in 2020 when I started volunteering as a mock interviewer, focusing on soft skills. It has been very rewarding and fun to help engineers in the MENA region get better work opportunities - one of my former mentees got a 4x salary increase!My work here was also important to me because I never studied Computer Science and hacked my way into the industry. I know firsthand the importance of community learning and the life-changing impact that a job overseas can have on someone living in a developing country.

Offered one-on-one coaching and small-group peer coaching sessions for Tech Leads and Software Engineering Managers.

Ran the Software Engineering, Data Engineering, and IT teams. Supported the Product team in the absence of a VP of Product.Before I joined Tourlane, Engineering had grown from ~5 to ~30 people over one year. My responsibilities included:* Establishing processes without losing speed and flexibility.* Aligning Engineering goals with the goals of other departments.* Providing transparency on the progress of initiatives.* Coaching a technical leadership team composed mostly of first-time managers.* Representing Engineering on the weekly Executive meeting in the absence of a CTO.* Aligning different Product roadmaps into a cohesive cross-team roadmap.* Recruiting for Engineering, Data, and IT teams.

Building tools that support the growth of Wayfair’s Catalog of more than 14 million products - with billions of options. We are a team of ~50 Engineers based in Berlin with a partner team in Boston, building tools that are used by 1000+ internal users and 10k+ suppliers.Over the last 2 years, we delivered many tools and process improvements that reduced the turnaround time of product addition and reduced operating expenses by increasing efficiency.

As Wayfair grows in the European market there are more and more Europe-specific challenges to solve. I was hired into the first European WMS Engineering team. My priorities were growing the general Berlin Engineering team from ~25 to ~70 (we kept WMS at ~3) and working with our Boston teams in bringing international projects and ownership areas to Berlin.Collaborated with our Transportation team in centralizing the creation of shipping labels, reducing code duplication and simplifying the process for adding new carrier integrations.Worked on introducing Integration tests to our third-party (highly customized) RF Gun software.Built software to enable mobile shipping label printing. Allowing us to, instead of printing at a centralized place, combine picking and printing, resulting in increased efficiency. This involved refactoring one of our key tools (the Packing Wizard) reducing code duplication and ensuring data consistency.

There are many interesting challenges in working on the Checkout & Payment team at a company that is present in 14 different countries.Lead a team of 4 Engineers (2 BE, 2 FE) in integrating new payment and delivery methods, notably:- Introducing Pickup Points delivery option to our French customers (leading to significant delivery cost savings) - Adding the Boleto payment method for Brazil (you don't need a bank account to use Boleto. It has 15% market share)- Integrating recurring Direct Debit (Lastschrift)
