The "Human Dynamics in Cognitive Environment" unit is a multidisciplinary team performing applied research in the Human-Centric computing field, at the interplay between computer and human science. It studies Cyber-Physical Social Systems and develops Ambient Intelligence technologies that leverage connected physical spaces and objects that citizens and workers use to enhance their individual and collective experience or performance, with a stance on Context-Aware adaptive systems, Embedded technology-based competency assessment and Multi-user natural interaction, and a transversal focus on knowledge evolution, collaboration, crowd-computing and decision support, as well as behaviour analytics, in smart cities, smart manufacturing and smart finance application domains. Research Unit "Decisional Knowledge Dynamics", within the "IT for Innovative Services" department.Creating human- and knowledge-centred technologies to enable design, problem solving and decision-making in complex and systemic situations:- Adaptive and personalised systems (Recommendation, Crowd computing, Large-scale and dynamic Knowledge-Bases)- Multimodal Analytics (Natural Interfaces -Motion, gesture, tangible...-, interaction with objects, Reflective Systems)- Model management (multi-model integration, model transformation and natural modelling)- Skill assessment (Automatic item and test generation from model and texts, collaborative complex problem solving assessment with smart interactive and collaborative systems, embedded continuous assessment)Staff: 36 (Researchers, Engineers, PhD's, Post-Docs) - Computer science, psychology, engineeringApplication fields: Smart finance, Construction (centred on Building Information Model and associated processes and interfaces), Smart City, Cultural Heritage, eHealth, Education and HR

- Research unit "Knowledge-Intensive Systems and services":Knowledge-Based systems and their application in Service Science and Innovation: Knowledge modelling and elicitation, semantic web technologies, Human-machine knowledge transaction (knowledge models, recommendation and personalization, Natural User-Interface, hand-writing and drawing recognition, dialogue systems), Knowledge processing, optimization and Machine-Learning, Technology-enhanced learning and computer-based assessment.- Staff:Culminated at 42 (among which 4 researchers and engineers transferred to OAT S.A. spin-off in 2013), hosted 25+ Master students, 9 PhD students, 6 Post-Doctoral Fellows (ERCIM, FNR-AFR, Marie-Curie grants).- Innovation program and portfolio “Education Systems and International Surveys”:About 10M€ cumulated budget between 2002 and 2012 on the Computer-Based Assessment portfolio, from which approx. 60% external funding. In charge of the Computer-Based Assessment and questionnaire platform development and deployment team for OECD's international surveys PISA (2009, 2012 and 2015 cycles) and PIAAC (2011) as part of consortiums lead by Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) and Educational Testing Services (ETS, USA).

Vercauteren, Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix, Namur, Belgium. In collaboration with FINA Research S.A.- Oct. 1995 - May 2000 : Researcher: Theoretical Study of heterogeneous catalysts for stereospecific polymerization of propylene: focus on wave function and electron density analysis with NBO and AIM techniques, Reactivity models, polymerisation simulation, classical molecular mechanics and dynamics. Application of (rule-based) AI and Meta-Heuristics (Monte-Carlo, Hidden Markov Models, and Genetic Algorithms) to polymer chemistry and catalysis processes simulations.
