Senior Finance and Commercial Executive with 24+ years’ experience in infrastructure and mining with proven track record in establishing robust commercial frameworks and in structuring and executing financing solutions that support strategic business goals. Proven track record in achieving value accretive commercial and financial outcomes. Thierno is currently Head of Structured and Project Finance, Rio Tinto. In this role, Thierno is responsible in working with the Product Groups to formulate and execute business units financing strategies and in structuring and arranging financing for the business units / joint ventures. Prior to this, Thierno was General Manager Commercial & Business Analysis, Growth & Innovation, responsible for leading the G&I business analysis function and have accountability for providing commercial support and business insight across the G&I portfolio including Exploration, Strategic planning, Oyu Tolgoi, and Projects. Thierno had also accountability for leading the G&I Intellectual Property and Innovation commercial strategy. Rio Tinto G&I is accountable for finding, shaping, developing and delivering a portfolio of options for Tier 1 assets. Prior to this role, Thierno was GM, Strategic Financing and Investment Delivery at Rio Tinto London, focused primarily on attracting equity investors to own, build and fund the Simandou Infrastructure Project. In previous roles, Thierno was GM Commercial for RT Iron Ore International Operations, with the principle accountability of formulating projects’ commercial strategies and providing senior commercial support to projects’ studies, having initially occupied within Rio Tinto Group, various roles including Aluminum Product Group Controller, Finance & Treasury Manager of the JSE listed Palabora Mining Company, Simandou Business Evaluation & Analysis Executive,Prior to joining Rio Tinto, Thierno was employed as a Senior Consultant with Ernst & Young Advisory and Business Services for 8 years
