Research Scientist in the field of functional nanomaterials and nanotechnology for applications in renewable energy and biotechnology: third generation solar cells (printed, hybrid) and biosensors, for example. In order to get these new technologies closer to commercialization, I create and optimize nanomaterials to improve the efficiency of their processes or diminish their toxicity, By using a combination of literature knowledge and out-of-the -box thinking, I imagine and synthesize new materials to solve existing problems or open new avenues of R&D.Specialties: Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology; metals, metal chalcogenides, metal oxides; nanoparticles, quantum dots, carbon nanotubes; photovoltaics, hydrogen generation, renewable energy, biomedical sensing.
Listed skills include Nanotechnology, Nanomaterials, Spectroscopy, Nanoparticles, and 46 others.

As a Research Assistant in Dr Saif Haque’s Group at Imperial College, I focused on the development of nanomaterials for novel molecular architectures for solar energy conversion devices, and the study of the parameters limiting the efficiency of these architectures. I authored or co-authored 9 papers in international scientific journals based on this work. I developed a new way of fabricating Solid State Sensitised Solar Cells via the thermal decomposition of single source precursors, and measured their physico-chemical characteristics, in particular their morphology and their charge generation and transfer characteristics, in order to improve their power conversion efficiency. In the framework of a collaboration with a biochemist, I synthesized and optimised nanocrystalline nanoporous metal oxide substrates for the study of hydrogen generation from biological systems. Working with PhD and Masters students, I developed a ‘one pot’ method for easy manufacturing of nanocomposite polymer/inorganic materials solar cells, and used it to fabricate P3HT/CdS and the first P3HT/Sb2S3 hybrid solar devices. Utilising a range of characterisation methods allowed us to understand and optimize the charge transfer in these devices. For a consulting contract with an external company, I used transient laser spectroscopy to characterise their semiconductor sensitised TiO2 based solar cells. In addition, I coached and co-mentored graduate and post-graduate students, directing and assisting them in the planning and execution of their research projects, and monitoring and reporting their progress, and managed the day to day operation of the chemistry laboratory.

The ATI, an interdisciplinary research institute addressing grand challenges in renewable energy, health care and information technology, employed me as a Research Fellow.I coordinated the Guardian Angel, project focused on improving “Health and Well Being” by combining different groups’ complementary expertise in nanotechnology, mobile communications and medical imaging to get an integrated non-invasive diagnostic tool based on electrophysiological measurements. In order to understand fundamental properties of quantum dots used in hybrid solar cells, I synthesised semiconductor nanoparticles and modified their surface, before characterizing them. This allowed other members of the team to study of the influence of the quantum dots characteristics (morphology, electrochemistry, and optical properties) on their interaction with small organic molecules in hybrid devices.I also trained and mentored graduate and post-graduate students, and directed the writing and submission of a funding proposal, while being co-author of several other grant proposals.

As a Research Associate, I developed a method to separate semiconducting from metallic nanotubes using dielectrophoresis, studying the different steps of the process using Raman Spectroscopy. I also participated to the writing of the patent about the separation method. In addition, I was a demonstrator for the ‘Scientific Measurement’ lab course.
Research chemist in Pr James Durrant’s group, using both sol-gel chemistry processes and other innovative synthetic approaches, I synthesized, characterized and optimized nanocrystalline and nanoporous oxides, namely TiO2, for applications in the field of solar energy and biosensors. This work led to several scientific publications as well as a granted patent.

As a PhD researcher in this interdisciplinary research institute, I synthesized and characterized transition metal nanoparticles in silica gels, using techniques such as electronic microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction and DTA-TGA. I studied the optical and magnetic properties of these nanoparticles, focusing on their evolution with particle size distribution.
