About Thierry Stolarczyk
(Français ci-dessous)I am a researcher at CEA, Institute of research into the fundamental laws of the Universe (Irfu). After hunting solar neutrinos under a mountain in Italy, then studying their properties at CERN in Geneva, I searched for cosmic neutrinos with Antares, a telescope in the Medi-terranean abysses. I am now leading a group at the astrophysics division in CEA Saclay, involved in CTA, a new generation of gamma ray telescope array aiming at solving the long standing mystery of the origin of cosmic rays. Thierry Stolarczyk est chercheur à l’Institut de recherche sur les lois fondamentales de l’Univers du Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA Irfu, Centre d’études de Saclay). En 1990, sa thèse porte sur les effets de la radioactivité naturelle et du rayonnement cosmique dans la détection des neutrinos solaires dans Gallex, une expérience installée à 1500 m sous les Apennins, au laboratoire national du Gran Sasso (Italie). Il participe ensuite à la mesure du flux de neutrinos en provenance du Soleil. À partir de 1993, en parallèle, il rejoint l’expérience NOMAD au CERN dont le but est d’observer l’apparition de neutrinos-tau dans un faisceau de neutrinos-muon (étude de l’oscillation des neutrinos). En 1998, il rejoint l’expérience Antares, un télescope sous-marin à neutrinos, en pleine phase de recherche et développement. En 2005, alors que la construction du télescope démarre à 2500 m sous la mer, il en devient responsable scientifique au CEA. De 2006 à 2012 il codirige les études de R&D et de physique du consortium KM3NeT, un instrument successeur d’Antares. Fin 2012, au service d’astrophysique, il devient responsable scientifique du groupe CTA, une nouvelle génération d’observatoire des rayons gamma dont le but principal et de mieux comprendre l’origine du rayonnement cosmique.
