Versatile and driven, Thierry Smagghe offers skills in crisis management, change management, strategic planning, governmental and stakeholder-negotiation gained over 25 years of diverse professional experience. In all those years Thierry had the pleasure to build a strong network as well in as outside Belgium on private and governmental level. Colleagues know him as an engaged and caring leader, one who forges partnerships with key partners across the private and public sectors, but also enhances and revives the cooperation between silos in an organisation, or between organisations.Thierry has a deep knowledge of the meat industry through multiple managerial positions in the food chain. He convinced the Belgian distributers (Colruyt, Delhaize and Carrefour) to align their quality systems and use one common traceability system. His lobbying with excellence on all levels lead to the opening of the Chinese market for Belgian pork and Belgian pig slaughterhouses. He managed meat factory lines and implemented new production processes, and also restructured the management system in several production factories. Moreover, he developed the Meat sector guidelines for Auto Control System, Thierry is a Master of Science. His previous positions as general director of several associations gave him the opportunity to visit and explore hundreds of (meat) companies all-over the world.
