At imec, I work on iot sensor platforms, test setups and demos for both for commercial air quality sensors and water quality sensors that are developed in-house.I write C/C++ cross-platform application code and drivers for various Arduino versions, raspberry pi's and (custom) STM boards.For most of these projects, I also design basic PCB's (like custom Arduino shields) and enclosures.I also integrate imec sensors and readout electronics in client systems with a wide variety of wired and wireless protocols (LoRa, sigfox, wifi, ble, rs485, rs232, modbus,...).

Bikescout is a radar-based bicycle detection system. The system is placed at dangerous bicycle crossings, where cars don't always yield the right-of-way to cyclists. When the system detects a cyclist, LED pods, embedded in the road, will start blinking to alert the driver.Bikescout already had a working Proof Of Concept built by another party. As with most POC projects, it had to be rebuilt from scratch, with proper design and coding practices. I was responsible for the overall design of the platform, and the implementation of the detection algorithms.There are now bikescout installations in production in The Netherlands, new Zealand and Belgium.More information at https://www.heijmans.nl/en/bikescout/
