Working with UK Output Operations at the heart of BBC News' creative technical and production capability, the purpose of this role is to provide technical production expertise for a wide range of productions, and to assume the overall responsibility for the planning and realisation of sound and visualised audio operations for a production, realising editorial ambitions.Key skills and responsibilities include:• Assume responsibility for the entire operation of specialism for a production; leading teams and deploying resources in the most effective manner.• Plan and organise the technical, staffing and logistical requirements for programmes and schedules where necessary, including ordering and hiring appropriate equipment.• Work with production teams to determine and interpret technical requirements and advise on creative and technical solutions and limitations; interpret and manage changing production requirements within financial constraints.• Use interpersonal skills to advise producers, contributors, presenters, actors and musicians, on aspects of performance relating to the sound balance.• Communicate complex information in an appropriate way for stakeholders at all levels.• Take part in planning meetings as needed; assist with departmental and production forward planning, liaising on all matters relating to technical production.• Developing and maintaining good professional relations with programme departments.• Contribute to the development of pitches for new work.• Responsibility for safety, including the creation of risk assessments; ensuring the safety of self and others; maintain industry-standard safety qualifications.• Assist in the development of new effective ways of working.• Brief colleagues and production staff on developing technical procedures and where appropriate, to assist in the training and mentoring of colleagues.• Where appropriate to take on or contribute to project work and to contribute to the appraisal of junior staff.

Within this role I am helping to push forward the digital and mobile strategy of the BBC's political output for news, making the most of BBC content for as many audiences as possible whilst realising journalistic/production aims of the various strands within political programmes, taking into consideration editorial policy. This includes producing and editing videos for the 'BBC Politics' social media channels across a number of popular social platforms including: Twitter, Facebook, and Apple News. This also includes crafting podcasts and long form radio documentaries for BBC Radio 4, 5Live, World Service as well as recording on location for programmes such as Four Thought. I frequently visit the Houses of Parliament, College Green, Portcullis House and 10 Downing Street, representing the BBC, to record and set up feeds for MPs, Lords and other high profile guests for high profile national broadcasts.I work within a small team at BBC Westminster, alongside correspondents from Radio 4 & 5 Live, regions and nations, offering advice when needed, on the best use of staff and facilities, taking into consideration editorial policy, resources, health and safety, and legalities.Key skills and responsibilities of this role include:• Video editing and social media skills, to be able to create and deliver content to the high standard expected of the BBC, meeting deadlines.• An ability to keep relevant in a fast moving industry, maintaining skills and knowledge of the latest practices in regards to video, audio & social media.• An understanding of the journalistic/production aims of BBC Politics.• Interest & knowledge of social media and mobile technologies with a view to developing the way the BBC delivers content in both audio and visual media.• Camera and editing skills to help BBC teams make their content available on a range of mobile platforms.• Ability to work on outside broadcast/recordings, sometimes alone, in a multi-media capacity.
