Before retiring, Thom Bennett divided his time between careers in the theatre and in education. As an educator, Thom holds a Ph.D. in Educational Systems Development, has authored numerous journal articles and has served on the Ontario Ministry of Education's Advisory Committee on the Arts. He has taught at all three levels of education, elementary, secondary and post-secondary, specializing in English and Dramatic and Theatre Arts. Extensively involved in theatre as a director, actor and playwright, Thom was the Artistic Director of two summer theatres in Ontario, Rainbow Theatre for 17 years and Port Carling Dinner Theatre for 6 years. As a playwright, he has written five published plays, including his most performed work, "Dark Rituals", which has been produced in almost half of the states in the U.S. He has co-authored a full-scale adaptation of the romantic swashbuckler, "The Prisoner of Zenda", and has recently completed a new thriller entitled "The Curse of Shadow Island", which is set in a lighthouse during the summer of 1959. Other plays by Thom include the thriller "Club Dead", a modern morality play set on a mysterious Caribbean island, and "Return to Wonderland", a delightful family fantasy with plenty of audience participation.In the last half-dozen years, Thom has published six books, including three mystery novels, "The Death Merchants", its sequel "The Man With Hemingway's Face" and "Dark Porch Mysteries". He has also published three collections of short stories including the illustrated book "13 Tales From the Dark", as well as "The Christmas House - 12 Tales of Holiday Magic" and the collection "Promises, and Other Tales of White Lies". Other publications of his works have appeared in "Mystery Weekly Magazine" and in Metrolandnorth Media publications. Thom is a member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada and the Crime Writers of Canada. He is a recipient of the Canada 125 award.
