I am responsible for planning the infrastructure investment that the Government will make in rail in future years. This is primarily focused on developing the Department's High Level Output Statement (HLOS) for Control Period 6 (2019-2024). This statutory statement sets out the Government's priorities for investment in the railways during the period and defines the funding available to do so. Following the previous HLOS I am responsible for refining and improving the process to ensure that it delivers the best possible outcomes for the railway's users. I am also responsible for providing expert advice on rail investment and representing the Government in discussions with Network Rail, Local Authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships, Devolved Administrations and other stakeholders.

As Head of Public Affairs in the Passenger Services Directorate in Rail Group in DfT, I was managed the team responsible for the Department's relationship and reputation with the public, the rail industry and the media. I was responsible for managing the reputation risk, devising and delivering complex stakeholder relations and communication strategies, and crisis management for the directorate. I was responsible for engaging with all of our stakeholders through events, consultations, presentations and media facilities. This included the creation of, hosting and management of the annual rail industry day conference, representing the Government at conferences and events, and planning consultation documents and events. I also devised and supported the communications of major Government announcements for each stage of the rail franchise procurements DfT is responsible for. This included drafting media and Parliamentary statements, coordinating communications with bidding parties and supporting Ministers and spokespeople at media and stakeholder events. Alongside managing proactive and reactive communications and engagement activities for the directorate I was also responsible for developing consultation policy; devising successful changes to the process, which resulted in a significant increase in engagement and the development of better franchise specifications and better outcomes for passengers and taxpayers.

It is currently engaged in an 8 year programme worth well in excess of £50bn.
