Key aspects of this work include:• Compiling information from sources including the British Geological Survey, DEFRA, and the Environment Agency to characterise site ground conditions including: Geology, Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Radon, and sensitive land uses.• Using historic mapping and information from archival sources to reconstruct site usage history and identify potential ground hazards, including nearby mining activity.• Creating contaminated land qualitative risk assessments based on past and present site uses, and potential contamination sources identified in site walkovers.• Understanding relevant policies and guidance concerning contaminated land assessment, including “Land contamination risk management (LCRM)”; and “Managing and reducing land contamination: guiding principles (GPLC).”• Producing site maps in QGIS, highlighting land uses, contamination sources, and changes associated with the clients’ proposed works.• Identifying where further investigations or remedial works may be required, such as a detailed mining report, Phase 2 site investigations, and radon protective measures.
