ARCHE will develop a pan European framework for a holistic approach to cultural heritage research and innovation, by creating the Alliance for Research on Cultural Heritage in Europe (ARCHE), a spearheading coordination network of researchers, innovators, heritage professionals, institutional bodies and citizens. The objective is to engage all cultural heritage actors in Member States / Associated Countries in the co-design of research and innovation strategies and roadmaps that lead to research and innovation initiatives requiring multidisciplinary approaches and skills.A detailed assessment of research and innovation gaps and needs for the next decade will be the basis for designing a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for joint programming aiming to increase awareness of heritage and European sense of belonging. A new purpose-built governance structure will be proposed that will effectively involve existing networks and new partners from relevant scientific disciplines and industries. It will also promote intensive and wide-ranging collaboration between cultural heritage, the arts, and the CCS. The Time Machine Organisation (TMO) is the leading international organisation for cooperation in technology, science and cultural heritage and the institutional governing framework that ensures the sustainability and economic independence of the Time Machine project.It is an internationally oriented association under Austrian law and headquartered in Vienna. As such, the association is open to any type of legal entity that deals with science, technology and cultural heritage. Furthermore, it is possible for individuals to join the Time Machine network by becoming a Time Machine Supporter.

A joint doctoral program between Vienna university of technology and St. Pölten university of applied sciences explores approaches to automatic image analysis and visualization to access historical media collections and make them accessible to a wide range of users. Die Gesamtheit des vorhandenen Kultur- und Naturerbes der Region für gegenwärtige und künftige Generationen zu bewahren und zugänglich zu machen, stellt besondere Herausforderungen, mit denen sich Verein und GesmbH “Mariazell im Wienerwald” beschäftigen. Verein und gemeinnützige GesmbH “Mariazell im Wienerwald” wurden gegründet, um das reiche kulturelle Erbe des ehem. Benediktinerstiftes der Öffentlichkeit zeitgemäß zu präsentieren und zugänglich zu machen. Monasterium is the world´s largest online ressource for medieval and early modern charters and documents. Founded 2001 in St. Pölten by Thomas Aigner and Karl Brunner it currently comprises more than 800.00 documents from all over Europe.

Fostering the digital transformation of the diocesan administration, aiming at creating a flourishing data landscape. The department consists of three teams dealing with the core information of the organisation: analogue documents in the diocesan archive, digital data in the data management and records of birth, marriage and death in the registers´ office.

The Time Machine FET Flagship builds a Large Scale Simulator mapping 2000 years of European History, transforming kilometres of archives and large collections from museums into a digital information system. These Big Data of the Past are common resources for the future that will have a huge cultural, economical and societal impact. Researchers from all over the world are now joining forces to bring the past back in one of the most ambitious project ever on European culture and identity.

Together, 17 institutions from 11 European countries successfully launched this project to strengthen and promote the co-operation between archives and other institutions preserving our common cultural heritage and to encourage involving the general public.In the age of digital information technology and the constant availability of information through the Internet, it is not only important to have democratic access to knowledge by means of digital tools, which is more and more taken for granted, but to focus on the amazing potential that lies in the critical production and expansion of knowledge

A project funded by the Culture Programme of the European Union, 11/2010-04/2015.A mind set on advancing the network of archives and other cultural institutions that safeguard written European cultural heritage - while simultaneously making it freely accessible via the internet as Europe's Memory.

From February 2012 until June 2014 the project memory without borders – as part of the European Territorial Cooperation Programme „Creating the Future Slovak Republic – Austria“ – had the goal to foster a free and simplified access to archives of the border region of the Slovak Republic and Austria with the help of modern technologies as digitization and new media. The history of Austria and the Slovak Republic has many common characters. Those common properties were concealed for a fairly long time, for example because of the so called “Iron curtain”. Since the Middle-European countries joined the European Union those barriers disappeared and new room for a fertile cultural exchange have been established.Numerous important documents and written historical sources of the border region Austria and the Slovak Republic are kept in the national, regional and clerical archives of both countries. For a fairly long time those mutual European cultural beneficiaries were barley open for the interested public.The goal of the project “Memory without borders” was to get over hurdles like language or limited access to archives and to make the historical documents available to interested people of both countries independent of space, time and social status.After project end all partners are still working on new digitization programs as well as on joint activities. Our platform crossborderarchives will be still available free of costs and with up-dated materials in the future.
