Port Of Dover

Whilst working for the Port of Dover I was responsible for managing and operating the Port's hydrographic department. In this position I carried out hydrographic surveys of the Port's key operational areas and ad-hoc survey projects for dredger and operational staff upon request. My responsibilities included all aspects of hydrographic survey work including survey reconnaissance and planning, data collection from the Port’s survey vessel MV DIANA and full cleaning and processing of all collected data. I was then responsible for publishing and distributing all hydrographic outputs produced by the Port, regularly liaising with internal users, contractors and the UKHO. In addition to this role I was also a key member of the Port’s environmental department. My role in the department was to carry out environmental monitoring, including benthic grab sampling, ecological trawling and water quality analysis. Furthermore, I undertook the responsibility of maintaining and updating the Port’s impressive carbon footprint and carried out environmental auditing of tenants and contractors as part of the Port’s ISO14001 environmental management system. I also played a key role in communicating with many departments around the Port promoting environmental sustainability and management, and was also part of a number of projects to increase the Port's commitment and generation of renewable energy. The nature of the role meant I was responsible for performing a diverse and enjoyable work load. As such my duties varied consistently with many ad-hoc jobs carried out as required by the Environmental Manager and Marine Servcies Manager.
