Thomas Arnold Email and Phone Number
I earned my degrees in medical information technology and healthcare IT, focusing heavily on data analysis. My fascination with imaging devices and their medical applications shaped my master's thesis, which delved into ultrasound blood flow imaging and ultrasound tissue strain imaging for tumor diagnostics. Despite enticing job prospects, my desire for a PhD alongside an R&D role drove my decision. This opportunity materialized through Carinthian Tech Research (CTR) and the University of Klagenfurt. At CTR, I immersed myself in hyperspectral imaging across various applications, contributing to captivating projects that culminated in my doctoral thesis. This thesis centered on hyperspectral imaging for intra-surgery tissue classification and hyperspectral fluorescence imaging for tumor diagnostics, under the guidance of Prof. Pilz from the University of Klagenfurt's Department of Statistics. In 2019, CTR merged into Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) GmbH, a research hub for electronic systems spanning three Austrian locations. While my journey began in 2007 at CTR with approximately 40 employees, SAL now boasts over 350. Progressing from a junior scientist and PhD candidate, I now serve as a staff scientist specializing in photonic sensor systems. My focus lies in imaging and spectroscopy for industrial applications, coupled with the leadership of numerous R&D projects. My role has expanded to include the enhancement of project management standards, encompassing areas such as quality management and export control, thereby refining our overall research process.Beyond my professional pursuits, engineering captivates me in my leisure time. Exploring 3D printing, CNC machining, and conventional techniques enriches my hobbies, from designing and piloting RC planes and helicopters to restoring vintage motorcycles. Additionally, I cherish bicycle excursions with friends around the stunning lakes of southern Austria. My enthusiasm extends to disc golf and 3D archery, rounding out a multifaceted array of passions.
