Working on behalf of national house builders, I was responsible for the day-to-day management of planning applications and local plan promotions for large scale residential schemes across the South East.

•Planning Applications ManagementI was responsible for overseeing all ‘strategic’ planning applications, allocating applications and subsequently managing the activity of individual case officers, including signing off reports and decisions. •Corporate Planning AdviceI sit on several Regeneration Boards, providing planning advice to Senior Officers and Senior Members to help deliver the Council corporate regeneration priorities. Alongside this I also sit on a number of Officer working groups providing strategic and detailed planning advice in respect of specific Council regeneration schemes in Medway. •Team ManagementI am responsible for managing a team of six Senior Officers comprising two Urban Designers, Landscape Officer, Flood Risk and Drainage Officer, Conservation Officer and a Development Management Officer. As a line manager I am responsible for day-to-day management of these staff as well as the formal HR procedures including the Personal Development Review (PDR) process.•Local Plan LiaisonI provide advice to the Local Plans Team particularly with regard to the formulation of the new development strategy. I am also responsible for project managing the delivery of the Strategic Transport Assessment.•Planning Applications – Case OfficerI have responsibility for my own case load of strategic applications included several large scale residential schemes on both greenfield and brownfield sites.•Public Inquiry - Planning WitnessI have acted as Planning Witness at a recent public inquiry. I was also responsible for coordinating the involvement of the Council other expert witnesses.

As a Senior Planner in the Policy Team I was responsible for the: Preparation of the evidence base, specifically project managing the delivery of the Strategic Land Availability Assessment and the procurement of a Strategic Transport Assessment; Advised on the consultation strategy and preparing materials for the first stage of public consultation; Advised on the process for formulating the development strategy for the new plan; Actively liaising with Members through the Development Plan Advisory Group; andProviding policy advice on planning applications to Development Management colleagues.

My main responsibilities in this position included the provision of strategic planning advice to land owners and institutions, the preparation of town planning appraisals, the preparation and submission of planning applications and appeals, and representations on local and regional development plans. The majority of that experience has been through involvement in complex development schemes. Key projects included:•Chapelton – New SettlementI provided planning advice in support of the development of a 4,045 home new town in Aberdeenshire, which achieved both ‘in principle’ and ‘detailed’ planning permission in October 2013 with development on site commencing almost immediately. •York Racecourse North End RedevelopmentI acted as planning consultant to York Racecourse securing planning permission and listed building consent for the redevelopment of the north end of the racecourse including the refurbishment of Grade II* listed structure. I was responsible for the appointment and management of the environmental team as well for all aspects of the liaison with the City Council planning and conservation departments.•Land West of Kidlington – Promotion of land for housingI acted on behalf of the University of Oxford and partner landowners promoting land for residential development through the development plan process. I identified and executed the strategy for the promotion of the site through the Local Plan process, focusing particularly on opportunities presented by the duty to co-operate and the Strategic Housing Market Assessment.•University of Oxford Functional EstateI also acted for the University of Oxford in the Oxford City development plan process securing residential allocations for disposal of surplus sites, allocations for functional sites as well as promoting the University interests in respect of functional planning policies issues (including affordable housing contributions from student accommodation).
