September 2020 I started my first year of my Degree in Horticulture. I am set to finish my Degree in May 2023. I came onto the Degree at Writtle University College with 4 years experience in Horticulture already and was keen to learn more having completed a Level 2 and Level 3 Apprenticeship in Horticulture at Writtle. My previous work in Ornamental Production gave me a wealth of knowledge to bring with me into the Degree and gave me plenty of experience. I am aiming to achieve high while at Writtle and am continuing to grow as a student inside the University. I am also growing my connections in the industry to gain knowledge and experience. Between the months of June - September 2021 I organised a summer placement at APS Group on the Isle of Wight to gain more experience outside of the Ornamental industry. APS Group gave me lots of experience on working with Tomatoes for consumption which gave me new enthusiasm for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable sector. After my time of the Isle of Wight at APS Group, I came back to Writtle to continue my second year. I decided to take on a new challenge of being the President of the Writtle University College Horticulture Society. This was an opportunity to organise events, guest speakers and organise meetings with the society while doing my studies.

During my second year of University I organised a weekend job at Grenville Nurseries. This allows me to manage my workload at University and work two days a week in a Wholesale/Retail Nursery which specialised in Annual and Perennial plants also bare rooted and root balled trees in containers and bedding.

I was a crop worker and gained knowledge on the management of Tomato and Pepper crops. The placement allowed me to gain a wealth of knowledge on the Tomato industry and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable sector.

Started as a fulltime Apprentice at 16 and completed Level 2 and Level 3 Apprenticeship in Horticulture. These two courses took me 3 years and I left to pursue a degree in Horticulture. While I was at W.D.Smith & Son I trained to be a grower and completed PA1 and PA6A spraying certificates. The main part of my job was to pick, load and complete customer orders in the packing facilities. Second to this I was trained to work on potting and 'pricking out' machines that would plant new products into pots or bedding packs of 6 or 12. Some of the production was done by hand.
