Currently studying BSC Horticulture at Myerscough College, in June 2023 I finish the last year of my degree. From June to September 2022 I worked for APS Group on the Isle of Wight to gain further experience in Fresh Produce. Previous experience in Ornamental Crop production at W.D.Smith & Son and Crop work at APS Group on the Isle of Wight. During my second year of the degree at Writtle I worked at Grenville Nurseries part time on weekends while manging my workload at University.W.D.Smith and Son allowed me to complete the level 2 and level 3 Apprenticeship's in Horticulture at Writtle University College. From 2016-2020 I gained many of my skills which I have brought with me onto the Degree. Practical met theory once I left W.D.Smith & Son and started my journey on the Degree. After my first year of the Degree at Writtle I organised a summer placement at APS Group on the Isle of Wight. While at APS I trained as a Crop Worker which involved crop maintenance on Tomato and Pepper crops. Experience June-September 2021.Returning to Writtle to start my second year of the Degree I decided to search for a weekend job to earn more experience. I worked at Grenville Nurseries who work with the wholesale and retail market of herbaceous, annual bedding, bare rooted, and root balled trees on the weekend while studying. At the beginning of the year I applied to be the President of the Writtle University College Horticulture Society. This allowed me to organise events, guest speakers and organise meetings for other students to take part in.Once I complete my Degree I am looking to work in the Fresh Produce sector as this area of work is of interest to me. I am also interested in working ae Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) companies. Most of my knowledge and experience is in Protected growing environments such as glasshouses and polytunnels but I am also interested in the sustainability of growing Fresh Produce in organic and sustainable setups. I am continuously improving my knowledge in all aspects of Horticulture while crossing into some aspects of Agriculture to deeply understand how to improve my understanding of the operations within the industry.
