Tax Fraud Investigator
CurrentDuties:- Conduct thorough investigations of entities suspected of committing VAT fraud, employing analytical thinking and evidence-based approaches. - Compile and analyse evidence from a wide range of sources (HMRC systems, Companies House, company records) to uncover irregularities and trace complex supply chains.- Apply knowledge of tax legislation (PaCE, RIPA, POCA) and HMRC's legal powers, including conducting on-site visits and interviews, to gather crucial records and information. - Collaborate closely with HMRC’s technical and legal experts to strategise actions such as VAT deregistration, tax assessments and penalties against directors. - Foster positive professional relationships with tax agents to facilitate efficient communication and cooperation. - Manage multiple cases concurrently under strict deadlines.- Provide support to colleagues, assisting with cases, actively participating in both announced visits and covert operations.- Provide support to HMRC witnesses involved in complex indirect tax appeals, including providing technical advice and structured problem-solving assistance to case officers, solicitors and counsel.- Precisely document all casework meticulously through case management software, ensuring transparency and accountability.
