Crane Army Ammunition Activity
Involved in multiple departments within the manufacturing complex, CNC and Manual machining areas, Draw Press lines, Inspection, Metrology, Plating, Production, Shipping & Receiving, Time Study, Tool Room and Quality Control. This position allows the intern to learn the manufacturing and management processes through hands on experience in a working manufacturing environment. Operation of multiple Okuma CNC lathes, including twin spindle, twin turret, live tool, all equipped with bar feeders to produce required parts from 6061/7075 aluminum and various steel alloys. Operation of Haas & Hurco Vertical machining centers setup with multiple vise arrangements. Changed inserts and made corrective offsets to insure parts were within tolerance requirements.Operated various automated saws used to produce slugs and bars required to supply lathes.Engaged in several projects that dealt with Continuous Improvement of Production Methods, Safety Improvements within the Facility, and Improvements in Worker Ergonomics.
