Honors ThesisLafayette College Aug 2018 - May 2019Easton, Pa, Us- An Honors Thesis in Chemical Engineering serves to provide students with a high quality student-faculty research experience during the senior year- Built off previous atmospheric aerosol research to study the effect of UV irradiation and Methylglyoxal concentration on cloud activation potential of aqueous aerosol- Using experimental UV-Vis spectroscopy data to infer a photolysis rate constant - Required to give three reports to the Chemical Engineering faculty throughout the senior, provide weekly updates through memos and deliver a final technical report summarizing the year -
R&D Chemical Engineering InternFreshair Sensor May 2018 - Aug 2018Lebanon, New Hampshire, Us-Participate in the production of sensors that detect airborne chemicals. Specifically, tobacco and cannabis.-Contribute to the development of new sensor technology capable of detecting e-cigarette smoking events in real time using Molecularly Imprinted Polymers.-Constructed a small scale environmental chamber capable that acts as a testing fixture for new sensors. -
Excel Research ScholarLafayette College Jun 2016 - May 2018Easton, Pa, Us- Conducted research in a lab focusing on the development and troubleshooting of a unique method to measure surface tension with in-situ organic uptake. - In order to regulate experimental conditions, I built an apparatus to control relative humidity and organic concentration of an airflow using a PID controller independently developed in LabVIEW. - Applied Design of Experiment statistical tests to quantify the relationship between UV irradiation and organic concentration on cloud activation potential. - Based on the research I was able to present a paper at American Institute of Chemical Engineers 2017 annual meeting (publication under development). - Worked with a comprehensive MATLAB model, GAMMA, capable of characterizing aerosol behavior in the atmosphere. - Helped create modules to teach children about the importance of climate science and how their actions can impact it. -
Multidiscplinary Poster SessionLafayette College Sep 2016 - Dec 2016Easton, Pa, Us- Worked on a team of students of various disciplines to assess the water quality of Lafayette College. - - Using my previous lab experiences, I was able to develop a research plan for the project and assist in determination of desirable water qualities. The team tested for several characteristics including lead concentration, nitrates and pH. - Two potentially dangerous water fountains were identified and reported to the school. All findings were presented in a poster session hosted by Lafayette and the project earned third place honorable mention.
