After my time working in retail I decided to go for a career change into secondary English teaching. I have always had a huge passion for English (both literature and language) and I wanted to make a career out of it. At the Nottingham Academy, I trained there for my PGCE year and was offered the opportunity to continue my career at the end of it. Since then I have built a strong rapport within my department, with the students and with colleagues across the school. I believe that my main strengths are my passion and dedication towards the students and their successes - teaching in an inner-City school has it’s unique challenges and I believe my hard-work enables me to thrive in this environment. I believe it is vital to support students to become whole-rounded individuals when they leave school and it is this ethos I try to encourage through my teaching.I have taught across KS3-5 at all levels and because of this, and my degree, I believe I do have a strong subject knowledge.I am ambitious within the education sector, and in the future I would like to pursue a role within the pastoral aspects of the school as I believe it is this area where my main strengths are.

As a retail supervisor, you have similar roles to a retail operative but with added responsibilities. These responsibilities include organising a group of retail operatives in a particular department to efficiently increase sales, as well as organising smaller issues like dinners and breaks. There are also added responsibilities on the shop floor as retail operatives look to their supervisors with any issues that arise, whether it be with a customer or personal. As a supervisor, there is added pressure to hit weekly budgets, and it is also the supervisor's responsibility to make some of the bigger decisions concerning product placement and visual merchandising to maximise sales and hit targets. Other responsibilities include dealing with money at the end of the day, ordering stock and dealing with any paperwork.

As a retail operative, my main roles were to recover and mechandise stands, refill stock and maximise sales. On top of these, I had to optimise customer service whether it by face to face on the shopfloor or at a till or over the telephone.

I worked as a Christmas temp at Iceland as a retail assistant which consisted of optimising sales through stock replenishment and dealing with any customer queries.

I worked as a summer temp at Tesco which included optimising sales by restocking shelves and dealing with any customer needs whether on the shop floor or serving on a till.
