Developed methods and algorithms using Matlab to digitally process multispectral panorama images for edge enhancement and detection, to identity and locate characteristic terrain features and shapes, with the purpose to measure visibility distances. Identified further research opportunities for method validation, the use of test images for model calibration, assessment of camera internal and external parameters including terrain aspect and elevation, diurnal and seasonal variability, e.g. viewing angle, sun elevation, atmospheric conditions, changes in vegetation, snow cover.
