Business Analyst
Graduate Trainee
Having worked at Hubwise for little over a year and having graduated from University just before starting my role, I decided to apply to the graduate trainee scheme at Hubwise. This role involved me rotating around multiple departments within the operations of Hubwise including Transfers (from previous experience), Execution & Settlement, Stock Reconciliation and Corporate Actions for periods of 3-4 months. While in those teams I had to be trained on the day-to-day processing that had to be done, as well as any ad-hoc tasks and non-BAU processes. Once trained and being able to work without assistance within the team as a key member, I would then be tasked with a project of designing and implementing an improvement to benefit and streamline tasks that otherwise had not been updated in extended periods of time (including items such as system automation of processes, manual processes which took less time to complete, the use of tools to better process any tasks etc). This allowed me to use my understanding and tools from previous teams to bring over to other teams to not only streamline processes within teams, but better integrate any shared data that went between different teams. The graduate scheme also provided me the opportunity to take my CISI Investment Operations Certificate, which involved studying for and sitting 3 separate topic exams, which I had to study for in my own time, this allowed me to use the studying methods that I had harnessed as university and continue to use them while working a full time job. The other qualification that was provided as part of the graduate scheme was the Lean Six Sigma greenbelt, which involved attending lectures and discussions regarding topics based on project management and processes within a workplace and how to structure them.
Transfers Executive
I was first employed at Hubwise in the transfers team, this was due to an increase in both client firms coming onboard to the Hubwise platform and the amount of investors these client firms were bringing onboard. The transfers team handle the transferring in and out of assets (both investments and cash) into existing or new clients or out of existing clients to different firms. This required the identifying and checking of transfer authority forms for validity, processing transfer requests in a timely and correct manner as well as chasing ongoing transfers for updates from firms that the assets are coming from. At the time, the transfers team was a division of client services so this meant that tickets would be raised from client advisers with queries what we would have to answer as well as phone calls we would have to pick up and assist with. All of this helped improve my organisation, time management and my communication skills with regards to client facing and professionalism aspects.I also had to learn how to use the Hubwise in house system to navigate client transfers and information when either updating the system itself or updating advisers on tickets and phone calls, as all client information is stored on Hubwise's own back office system so it was nothing like anything I had seen before, but very intuitive and I grasped it quickly which allowed me to become a key member of the transfers team and really get stuck in on the processing side of the role.
Administrative Assistant
As a summer job over 2017 I went to work in the offices of Compact & Bale, a commercial waste compactor supplier and installer. I was involved in answering calls to our office as well as emails and queries which could have required liaising and agreeing with other members from different teams (e.g. maintenance requests for machines). After a few weeks I was taken out of the office by the sales team and went on site visits with them to potential new customers, discussing the potential sales of the industrial waste compactors to venders in places such as shopping centres, where waste space is limited and recycling may not be fully considered, this required me to manage to sales teams' time schedules and provide them with the correct documentation and direction for each potential customer. This role benefitted my organisation as well as my customer communication skills and problem solving abilities, the team were very welcoming and lovely to work with.
Cashier
After I had completed the necessary online training upon starting the role, I was put on operating the tills as a cashier, this required large amounts of customer interaction and communication, as well as problem solving if any issues with products or services required our attention (such as barcodes missing or issues with deals and sales values). After about a year or so, we organised a stall for me to sell our new range of local chutneys where customers could come and try samples on crackers and if they liked it we would provide them with jars of their desired flavours to take to the tills upon leaving the shop, this was a huge success and it was noticed by my manager. Following on from the succession of the stand, I was put on the shop floor to sell the large range of garden furniture we had available, this required discussions with customers, answering queries and learning about our range to provide the best service for existing and potential new customers. Once customers agreed orders, order forms would have to be filled out correctly and delivery schedules had to be reviewed to identify the best time furniture could be delivered to the customer if they could not take it home, as well as reviewing and keeping an eye on stock available. I very much enjoyed this role as it was both beneficial to my sales skills, communication skills and organisational skills. The sense of reward also when succeeding in selling large sets of furniture that could cost anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds was a large incentive to my performance also.
