Started off as a theatre oderly/assistant in Belford Hospital, Fort William for 18 Months, 1979-80. Became a Pupil Nurse at the Renfrew, Dumbarton and Argyll College of Nursing and Midwifery, Paisley for 2 years1981-83, Qualified as an Enrolled Nurse. Became an Enrolled Nurse working on a care of the elderly and rehabilitation ward again in the Belford Hospital for the next 4 years 1983-87. I was then put forward to do the bridging course and working as a Post-Enrollment Student Nurse at the Highland College of Nursing and Midwifery, Inverness for the next 2 years. Qualifying as a Registered General Nurse,1987-89. I was then employed as a Staff Nurse on a children,s ward at Farnborough Hospital, Kent, which was mixed medical and surgical ward for 0-16 years old. I was there for 14 months, 1989-90. Next I was a Post-Registration Student Nurse at the Western College of Nursing, Glasgow for 18 months. Qualifying as a Registered Sick Childrens Nurse 1990-92. I was then employed as a Senior Staff Nurse and latterly as Deputy Charge Nurse on the Peadiatric Unit at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton for 6 years. During my time there I started on the peadiatric medical ward, I also spent a year on the paediatric surgical ward, before the wards were merged. During an 18 month secondment on the Childrens Opthalmic Ward at the Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary, also during this period is when a devised and carried out the trial on using travel wrist bands to see if this reduced the incidence of post-operative vomiting following squint surgery. The numbers were not sufficent to publish, before my period there ended, but the initial findings were very positive. In 1998 I was looking for something different and was accepted to help start a service called NHSDirect in Dudley. I have been with this organization since it,s very beginning in the West Midlands. .
