I am an engineering professional with 40 plus years of combined management, hands-on electrical, electronic, and software engineering for a wide range of industrial, automotive, government, and military projects. For most of my career I have taken projects from early concept through design, development, qualification testing, installation, and customer acceptance.Proficient in C, C++, C#, various assembly languages, Python, LabView, and Ladder Logic. Software environments include Linux (X86 and ARM based systems such as the Raspberry PI), Windows, and MacOS.I am looking for interesting opportunities using the skills I have honed over the years designing and developing micro computer based products. I will consider full or part time positions, direct hire or contract, short term from a few weeks up to one to two years in length.

Sync 3 Stability And Performance LeadFord Motor Company Oct 2016 - Aug 2022Dearborn, Michigan, UsDeveloped an automated computer vision test package that monitored infotainment screens for anomalies such as loss of sync, black screen, and frozen screen failures. The system was written in python using OpenCV and ran on Windows, MacOS, and Linux systems using a camera and on Ford test hardware running Linux and a frame capture buffer. The original system ran on a Raspberry PI and then was then ported to the other platforms.Developed several Windows based tools (python and wxPython) that analyzed logs and compared ECU configurations with reference configurations to identify and resolve failures and assist in creating test configurations.Identified and specified government mandated and operational tests for validating infotainment system builds and releases.Debugged prototype vehicles, breadboards, and test bench issues related to the infotainment system. This included taking system and CAN logs, analyzing CAN logs, identified issues with the vehicle electrical system and other ECUs, assisted with general testing, and failure analysis of the infotainment system which included the audio components.Managed outside suppliers related to issue resolution and software delivery of the of Ford's Sync 3 system.Responsible for troubleshooting supplier screen hardware and software issues. -
Principal EngineerNeptune Technology Group Mar 2008 - Sep 2016Tallassee, Al, UsMember of the Data Collector Group which is responsible for developing new mobile and permanently installed remote water meter reading products. The products are outdoor rated devices that are designed to be installed on water towers, public safety, and commercial radio sites. They use 450MHz and 900MHz two-way radios for reading meters and cellular radio-based data networks. Responsibilities include new product development Project Management starting with product conception, design, development, testing and customer acceptance. -
Software EngineerNartron Corporation Nov 2005 - Dec 2007UsResponsibilities include design, development, and maintenance of the firmware for Nartron’s micro controller based military and automotive products. These products included an electronic glow plug management module, lighting control system for military vehicles, heated windshield washer module, anti-entrapment power window controller, and CAN based J1939 generator control module. Other activities consist of the design and development of automatic test equipment to support production including in-circuit testers, programmers, and specialized assembly systems. Programming was primarily in C, controllers consist of various Microchip PIC and Atmel ATMEGA processors. Other programming environments and languages include Linux, Visual C#, Visual Basic, LabView, and Idec Ladder Logic. -
Tacnet System Architect And DeveloperVisteon Jul 2000 - Oct 2005Van Buren Township, Mi, UsTacnet was an integrated package for police, fire, and public safety vehicles that eliminates clutter from the cockpit, integrating key vehicle systems including: 2-way radios, lights, siren, power management, and computer communication into a customizable package for automobiles, SUVs, and trucks. Designed and developed the hardware and real time OS based firmware architecture. Other designs include several hardware components, proprietary CAN based networking system (patented), DSP based audio system, power management (patented), diagnostics, and a public safety oriented 2-way radio interoperability system (patented). Wrote specifications for and managed contract developers for following hardware components: Master Control Box, Serial Interface Module, LCD computer display, hands free microphone, and various interfaces for the radios, light bars, and other special purpose modules. Other responsibilities include EMC design and testing, automotive OEM DV/PV testing, field support, prototype vehicle builds, and engineering support for sales. -
Technical ConsultantT.J. Bray And Associates Apr 1999 - Oct 2001Projects included embedded PowerPC (MPC-555), 68HC08&12, 386EX, assembler, C/C++, and CAN based network development controlling a wheelchair that would balance on 2 wheels and climb stairs.Other activities include SQL 7 and Access programming, configuration of networked NT Workstations and Servers for material handling applications, PLC and PC based industrial controls design and programming.

Senior Software EngineerAmphion Inc. Oct 1989 - Jan 1992As a senior engineer in a small company I had responsibility of on-site management of projects. Additionally I was responsible for designing the electrical controls, programming the programable controllers, troubleshooting systems, managing technical staff, and training customers on how to use the system. I developed a simulation program that simulated the tire material handling of Final Finish process in a tire plant written in Borland C++ running on a PC-AT computer. The simulation included the individual devices such as tray sorters, accumulation conveyors, and tire processing machinery. Programable controllers (Allen-Bradley) were simulated to the level of data files and it simulated Allen Bradley's Data Highway network. They package allowed the factory computers (VAX) to communicate with a simulated system for testing, debugging, and training purposes.
