Responsible for service, repair, and deployment of the AN/TPS-59 Ground based Air search Radar system. Attained the rank of Sergeant and Crew Chief. As Crew Chief, was responsible for the supervision of 5-10 Marines on the Radar Crew. Additional duties included:Calibration NCO responsible for timely calibration and repair for all testing equipment. Responsible for documentation of all test equipment and coordination with local calibration facility.MIMMS Clerk responsible for tracking of all equipment ordering for the Radar Repair Facility. Weekly coordination with Supply Clerk to address order tracking, backorders, and disposition of equipment.IFF NCO responsible for maintenance and repair of all IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) equipment to support 4 Radar Systems. This included the AN/UPX-27 Interrogator Unit and AN/ UPA-60 Decoder Unit.As AN/TPS-59 Crew Chief and concurrently serving as MIMMS Clerk, MACS-6 Radar was able to field 4 working Radar Systems in a 4 hour setup window on a mountain top in Harstad, Norway under "black light" conditions. This, along with other achievements led to receiving a Navy Achievement Medal for outstanding performance of duty.
