Specific achievements of the team have been:• As co-chair of the Public Health Response Team during the pandemic, planned and implemented a health and safety program by bringing together a group of subject matter experts from across VCU and VCU Health. In addition to establishing and running all COVID testing sites and contact tracing, developed a formal protocol to advise and assist the executive leaders of the institution. • Lead an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program to identify strategic, financial, operational, and compliance risks that affect the University’s ability to meet its strategic objectives. Additionally, work to define tolerance levels for enterprise risks and develop appropriate controls to reduce the likelihood and/or consequence.• Provide premier service to the University, VCU Health System, and a $400+ million research enterprise. We accomplished this through the extraordinary efforts of 53 staff members and a budget of $6.2 million;• Established a health and wellness clinic on the Monroe Park Campus; contracted with a virtual mental health and wellness service for our community; and implemented annual health and wellness screenings for all faculty and staff.• In 2023, the Environmental Health and Safety team swept the Campus Safety Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) innovation awards, including for the development of safety videos for under-represented minorities engaged in research.

Responsible for the direction of all safety and risk management programs at the second largest university in the nation, with 63,000 enrolled students; 13,000 resident students; 12,000 employees; and with one of the most diverse research portfolios in academia. Specific responsibilities included but not limited to the following:• Direction and management of a staff of 27 and a budget of $6.5 million; • Direction of a research support program consisting of Biosafety, Radiation Safety, and Laboratory Safety; • Direction of a University building code office, fire safety office, and occupational safety programs• Direction of all risk management and insurance programs;• Direction of environmental permitting and hazardous materials management programs. In 2015 the EHS program received the Campus Safety Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) Complete Environmental Health and Safety Program Award.

Responsible for the direction and management of all research-related safety programs; laboratory safety programs; occupational safety programs; accident prevention programs; emergency management and environmental permitting and hazardous materials programs at a component college of the City University of New York.

Responsible for the development, implementation and management of all occupational safety and accident prevention programs at Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall and Hartford Civic Center. These programs resulted in the savings of approximately $500,000 in worker’s compensation costs annually. After the incidents of 11 SEP 2001 was given the added responsibility of assuring emergency planning and preparedness at these facilities.
