Developed data science skills related to landcover classification, supporting sustainability work. Designed and implemented ground truth strategy to validate model outputs. Promoted cross-collaboration improving business understanding of data acquisition, management and outputs within Remote Sensing Services.

I work as part of quality control within the Height team, producing the Terrain 5 digital terrain model from aerial captured stereo-imagery. I support process improvement and automation on the flowline and built a predictive model on R to aid production planning. I present demos to a range of internal and external visitors to RSS highlighting the latest advancements to our flowline. I am also championing work to improve biodiversity on site organising volunteer surveys and supporting delivery of the OS Biodiversity Strategy.

Carried out bat, reptile and other wildlife surveys across southern England. I managed a full, dynamic schedule of surveys in addition to desk work. This included static bat call analysis and summarising survey data for planning applications, supporting the wider team. I also collaborated with colleagues and external consultants (e.g. landscape architects) in production of technical notes and a BREEAM report recommending ecological mitigation to commercial and scientific developments.

At GWCT, I supported the GIS team with digitising, geoprocessing and production of quality maps to support our research and conservation efforts. Much of this work was on ArcMap and ArcPro though I was able to automate the production of maps using Python. I helped with the management of GWCT’s long term databases including the Partridge Count Scheme, National Gamebag Census and Long Term Arable Flora and Invertebrate Study at Loddington. Management included data input, extensive data checking and analysis in R, Genstat and ArcPro. I documented my work and annotated scripts clearly to ensure it was replicable and easy to understand for future users. I also supported the Interreg PARTRIDGE project with their hare and partridge counts over winter, working in a team to identify birds and nocturnal mammals in fields from a 4x4.This placement gave me a detailed insight into how the conservation, research and farming sectors work, and how they are changing due to political, economic and environmental pressures.

Over the summer, I carried out bat emergence surveys and activity transects for the Southampton office. This included dusk, dawn and dusk/dawn surveys using Batlogger detectors.

For the summers of 2016-18 and Easter 2017 I assisted the rural surveyors and planning consultants with their work. This work was varied and contributed mostly to planning applications and valuations, however I was also involved in communicating with tenants, landlords and tradesmen to resolve management issues. In my final summer I wrote a sustainability statement to support a planning application and within a full ‘Design and Access Statement’ for a client. I gained an understanding of the 'National Planning Policy Framework' and local planning law whilst working at PJSA.

Part-time supporting administrative work of the company. Here I worked with confidential information and carried out anti-money laundering checks. I also organised the filing system.
