As a development consultant I bring my considerable experience and expertise to ongoing work to secure significant levels of support for mission aligned initiatives in a number of nonprofits mostly in the areas of community development, disease fighting, and the environment.I recently retired from JDRF where I served as a National Director in Leadership Giving focused on Research Investment Opportunities. In these roles I motivationally communicated cutting edge research to JDRF’s top investors. Since 2005 I have worn a number of hats while at JDRF working in Leadership Giving, Marketing-Communications, and partnered with JDRF Research. I launched the Research Information Volunteer Program (RIV) – a cadre of volunteers from chapters around the country who act as research experts based in chapters with an aim of ensuring that all JDRF families know how their investments are advancing the effort to cure Type 1 diabetes. My professional career prior to JDRF, included working for the Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service (HHS) in Washington, D.C. as a policy analyst and congressional liaison officer. I represented and worked with a number of agencies including the Centers for Disease Control, the Public Health Service, the Food and Drug Administration, the Social Security Administration and the Medicaid and Medicare programs. I worked for my alma mater, Virginia Tech, for 16 years as a major gift officer focused on corporate and foundation support for numerous academic departments and colleges with a focus on the sciences and applied sciencesI own and operate a 100 acre organic Christmas tree farm in the highlands of southwest Virginia that is also actively managed for the conservation of the unique flora and fauna of the southern Appalachians. I am an ardent bird watcher and outdoors enthusiast.
