Nuclear, Gas, Coal, Oil, Environmental and Process Plant. Lessons learned: Safety has to be the key to a successful project if you want to be proud of any project and to live with yourself. In projects "no decision" is the wrong decision, make the decision and move forward. The road you did not travel cannot be mapped. The new system may be new to you, but the principle are not (don't confuse these two). The contract may be the start of the negation, depending on location, as well as being the backstop if all goes wrong. The contractor has more control during the project, the client at the end, consider this when settling disputes and claims. The real party who can take risk is likely the client, abdication of responsibility in any area of the project by the client seldom works. The success of a complex project is only judged with many years of operation and lessons learned. The biggest skill is "listening a lot" and "hearing a lot". The team you have is the best team you have got and can get, make full use of them. Many of the projects I started some 50 years ago are now dismantle and are back to new use or green fields. But many have changed the landscape of the countries and the lives of people in those countries where they were completed. So definitely time to retire. My task on any project was always to try to make my work superfluous to the project. To achieve this you need the help on many staff and coworkers so much more talented than yourself.
