I started off as a medical assistant, but after about a month, I was transferred to their video production wing because they learned about my background in video editing and animation. For the first year or so, I learned Flash on the job and mainly used it to make animated anatomical diagrams for their medical education videos. I made other short little animations, mostly advertisements, station IDs, and ones that illustrated medical trivia. For most of the second year, I was tasked with making instructional videos that demonstrated how to use the company’s medical records software. It was a small company, so throughout my tenure with them, I also had to do all sorts of odd jobs that needed to be done, from manual labor to direct sales. I worked events, washed and detailed cars, mailed and handed out fliers, organized records, made blood sample deliveries for the clinics, moved all sorts of stuff between the company’s various facilities, some janitorial work, cleaned fish tanks, helped clear a field of tumbleweeds and garbage so that it could be used as a parking lot, and (putting some of the carpentry skills my father taught me) assisted the company’s handyman with small construction projects. I was downsized in August 2016. It was for the best, I was going back to school anyway.
