In this role, I manage evaluations of UNCTAD projects and programmes. Part of the Office of Secretary-General of UNCTAD, the Independent Evaluation Unit delivers this function to enhance accountability, transparency and support a culture of continuous learning.My specific responsibilities include:- Managing evaluation exercises from drafting terms of reference, engaging independent contractors and assisting in data collection and logistics.- Ensuring compliance with UN rules and procedures relating to evaluation- Quality control of evaluation reports- Producing reports for the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board- Support other evaluative functions across UNCTAD as needed, such as self-evaluations and delivering training to project teams.

In this role I managed programs funded by the New South Wales' Government 'Waste Less, Recycle More' initiative, delivered through the NSW Environmental Trust. These programs primarily support infrastructure, facilities and systems to increase rates of waste materials collected and processed for recycling, to divert organic wastes from landfill and to deal with targeted business and household wastes.Some of my responsibilities included:- Managing contestable grant rounds including scheme guidelines, applications and supporting technical committees to review and select grants for funding- Managing projects from commencement to completion including reviewing and approving milestone and financial reporting as well as processing project variations- Collaborating with colleagues across the Department and in the NSW Environment Protection Authority for technical advice on projects and information concerning environmental law compliance- Preparing papers for the NSW Environment Trust Board and responding to Ministerial requests for Environment Portfolio information

The team I led managed ~2000 active research projects from the Faculty of Engineering and UNSW Canberra, with several hundred million dollars of research funding under management.Some of my responsibilities included:- Supervision of 4 Grants Officers, including overarching direction of work activities for the team and human resources management e.g. staff professional development, recruitment- Project management of office-level activities, such as a major grant round with ~300 applications; also recruiting, training and supervising a team of 6 additional casual staff to meet this extra workload demand- Reviewing and approving core work activities, such as budget releases and draft agreements prepared by my team members- Providing legal review of research agreements and sourcing expert opinion where required for example for intellectual property provisions.- Representing my team at management meetings, external meetings and from these disseminating knowledge and implementing process / policy changes.- Creation of training materials for internal training as well as delivering public presentations for researchers / other professional staff.

In this role I was responsible for management of research funding through the entire lifecycle, from ensuring compliance of applications before submission to funding bodies, to coordinating legal advice and to project management of funding and deliverables. I also managed contracted research programs from a large range of industry and government groups. In the role I worked closely with UNSW academics, school/faculty managers and finance managers, as well as with complementary units within the Division of Research including the Strategy Office and Contracts Office.I primarily supported research programs across the Faculty of Engineering and UNSW Canberra.
