GIS Technician, Icon Geo (Compass Informatics sister company) Thomas joined our sister company Icon Geo in April 2021 in the role of GIS Technician and is presently assigned to the DAFM LPIS (Land Parcel Identification System) project for the digitising and validation of 1.3M land parcels for Ireland. The LPIS geodatabase represents the core vector geo dataset for the administration of €1.5B+ payments to farmers in Ireland each year. Thomas presently works as part of a wider team, in collaboration with client workgroups, for the successful delivery of this key national project. Working to a rigid technical specification enshrined in Common Agriculture Policy, Thomas holds responsibility for Quality Control (QC) and the troubleshooting of technical codes and removal of digitising process blockers to ensure project deadlines are met. Perform GIS vector digitising, vector data validation, vector data QC to ensure all LPIS data is accurately transferred to a new EC structure. During this job I had to map the entire urban cleaning infrastructure of Belo Horizonte city in Brazil, such as bins, recycling containers, qualify if they needed maintenance, replacement or even implement new ones in the area. The team use the software installed on the smartphones.

I worked on a project called Monthly Employment Survey (PME) and its basic topic was labor, coupled with educational and demographic characteristics, having the household as it investigation unit. PME became one of the main sources to follow up the short-term situation of the labor market.

At the Transport and Traffic Company of Belo Horizonte, I worked together with engineers to support the creation of maps of new bus routes, create detours when necessary. At the time we used MapInfo to generate those maps.

I worked with meteorological data collection from government websites (Brazil) to support the meteorologists on their weather forecasts. Among the data collected were satellite images, maximum and average temperatures per hour, wind direction, atmospheric pressure, and others. At the end, maps were made with the results. The data was compiled and analyzed, generating the maps.
