I grew up in Great Barrington Massachusetts, where among other things I learned the building trade from my father. I work as a carpenter for my fathers contracting company, however I sometimes do small-scale renovations on my own. I’m currently attending my senior year of college at the University of Massachusetts College of Natural Sciences. I am a candidate for a Bachelor of Science in Building and Construction Technology, which I will have completed in may 2015. I am interested in the construction industry, especially residential housing construction. My focus, educationally and professionally, is to make all aspects of the construction industry more sustainable and environmentally conscious. My passion is the research, methodology and integration of design elements that pertain to achieving maximum efficiency in residential housing. These design elements seek to create buildings that concentrate on providing excellent indoor environments for occupants as well as minimizing fossil fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The construction industry, especially residential housing construction and operation, account for one of the greatest contributors of annual carbon emissions in the US. By “greening” the industry we can mitigate these problems therefore greatly reducing its environmental impact and burden on the planet. I have made it my mission to impart sustainable practices into my my own work routine and strive to create a reality where such ethics are an industry standard.
