Thomas has joined KPMG Australia to bring experience and insight in both sustainability advisory and assurance services. It is a role key to ensuring that client relationships are well managed, operational processes are improved, staff mentoring is ensured, and financial objectives are met.Thomas’ role is mostly focused on developing the assurance sustainability practice through wins, better utilisation of existing resources and development of new tools to improve time-efficiency and quality of the deliverables. One of his key achievements was to create synergies between the sustainability practice and the Digital & Analytics practice, leading to significant improvement in the time costing of an assurance engagement. He has extensive sustainability experience on the following projects:Sustainability Assurance over Selected Claims: Thomas led the assurance teams for key clients, ensuring quality of the deliverables, managing the workloads of team members in accordance with client deadlines, and improving the cost efficiency of the audit processes.Assurance over Financed Emissions: Thomas reviewed Financed Emissions Methodology related to Mining, Power Generation, Agriculture and Real Estate in accordance with PCAF Standard. It was the first time in Australia that a major financial institution disclosed such assured metrics publicly.Assurance over Circular Economic Metrics: Thomas reviewed circular economic metrics used to estimate the environmental benefits that the Brambles sharing and reusing models produce in customers’ supply chains.ISO14001 and ISO45001 certification: In December 2020, Thomas achieved ISO14001 at a project level and ISO45001 certification at a corporate level for a major rail company in Australia.

Key achievements include the following: Led over seven advisory engagements on EU Taxonomy covering the following industries: Utilities, Construction and Infrastructure, Cement, Industrial Manufacturing, Healthcare, Video Games. Scope of work goes from eligibility assessment, pre-alignment assessment and communication strategy. Acted as a Subject Matter Expert on EU Taxonomy regulation for the Infrastructure and Real Estate Industries for KPMG Finland. Co-developed the coming assurance procedures for external audit to review EU Taxonomy disclosures.

As part of the new Chartered Accountant Training Program, Thomas oversaw the authoring of the case study related to the Sustainability chapter of the study guide. The scope of work included the development of a sustainability report, creating process maps and assurance templates to cover the following activities: Planning an engagement to provide assurance on a sustainability report. Performing an engagement to provide assurance on a sustainability report. Reporting to provide assurance on a sustainability report.
