Thomas practices in the areas of administrative and government law, land use and residential and commercial real estate transactions. Thomas represents individuals and corporate entities in the acquisition, disposition, leasing, financing and development of real property. Thomas’ practice involves a wide range of transactions including the development of condominiums, residential developments, affordable housing facilities, public utility buildings, public parking garages, restaurants and hotels. Thomas’ practice also involves real property and land use litigation. His experience also includes cases dealing with quiet title actions, zoning ordinances, building codes, administrative decisions, title claims, easements rights, private nuisance actions and mechanic’s liens. As a former Assistant Solicitor of the City of Wilmington, Thomas represented the City as a lender in private and public residential and commercial real estate transactions and as a participating jurisdiction in federally funded affordable housing programs. During his tenure as an Assistant Solicitor, Thomas also represented the City’s Real Estate and Housing Department, Planning Department, and various other boards and commissions of the City. After the City of Wilmington, Thomas practiced in Wilmington at Morris James LLP prior to transitioning his practice to Sussex County when he joined Baird Mandalas Brockstedt LLC. Thomas is founding a boutique real estate firm, T. Carney Sussex Law, in November 2019.
