About Thomas Cast, Phd
Building upon my experience with neuronal culture, I joined the Dell'Acqua Lab in the Department of Pharmacology at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. My scientific knowledge could best be described as a collection of “fun facts” which I unapologetically share with anyone around me. Aside from my own enthusiasm, my passion for science is also motivated by the interpersonal impacts of my research. This is especially true when it comes to the field of molecular neuroscience. For my very first publication out of the Chanda Lab I utilized human stem cell-derived neurons in order to characterize a mutated protein found in a patient with autism, which I am now expanding on in my final, self-directed project. As idealistic as it may be, the idea that my research could advance the realm of personalized medicine, even by improving the life of just one patient, fuels my drive to do science.
