My primary focus was pre-clinical research and development of novel bioabsorbable stent coatings, anti-neoplastic agents (taxol, doxorubicin) and heparin to prevent restenosis and to test them in vitro (SEM, resorption, drug release) and in rabbit dorsal aorta models (histology). I also modified Pericardial Tissue to prevent calcification in tissue valve prostheses, and mechanical heart valves. In another project I investigated biodegradable, porous 3D scaffolds for tissue engineering and tubes for nerve tissue regeneration. Further, in one project I fabricated a small diameter vascular graft (<5mm ID) for replacing diseased coronary arteries, via spray coating of thermoplastic polymers, surface modified with bio-compatible coatings. -
