Engineering InternAir Force Research Laboratory May 2017 - Aug 2017Wright Patterson AfbI worked with the superconductivity group in the Aerospace Systems Directorate through the Pathways program. I assisted with ongoing research in YBCO flux pinning and the search for new isotropic superconductors. Test Samples were created through bulk powder synthesis and analyzed the structure using powder x-ray diffraction. I Performed magnetic and electronic characterization using B-H curves and 4-point resistivity tests. Also, I analyzed the results and compiled them into a final presentation at the conclusion of the internship. -
Engineering InternAir Force Research Laboratory Jun 2016 - Aug 2016Wright Patterson AfbWorking in the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate through the Pathways program, I explored the effectiveness of the varying grit sizes in the grit blast sol-gel surface preparation method for bonded aluminum aircraft field repairs. I carried out analysis on the surface morphology of prepared aluminum plates through measurements of surface energy and roughness to explore their relation to adhesion quality. Wedge tests (ASTM D3762) in humidity chambers were conducted to determine environmental durability of adhesion. I also gained experience using Scanning Electron Microscope, Portable Autoclave, and Profilometer. I was involved in the planning, execution, and presentation stages of the project. -
