Thomas “Tom” Cliffe is the Director of Technology for Gas Operations at CenterPoint Energy, a domestic energy delivery company that includes electric transmission and distribution, natural gas distribution, competitive natural gas sales and services, interstate pipelines and field services operations.He is responsible for identifying, developing, implementing and supporting technology used in the company’s Gas Operations and Customer Services groups. Tom leads a team of more than 50 project managers and analysts located in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Minnesota. His group has several significant projects underway including the deployment of an Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system in the Houston and South Texas areas for 1.4 million natural gas customers and the replacement of private radio systems with broadband to support Mobile Data in the Houston and Minneapolis metropolitan areas.Tom has been with the company for since 1974 beginning his career in the field operations group of Houston Natural Gas, a predecessor company. In 1986 he moved into the Engineering group developing PC based software to support field and back office operations. In 1990 Tom moved into Information Technology and was responsible for deploying the company’s first LAN system in the corporate offices. He was promoted to Manager of Workstation/ Network support in 1998 and to Director of Technology in 2002. Tom is a native Texan and the proud father of three children. He and his wife Judy live northeast of Houston, Texas.
